Before we arrive
What to have ready
None of it is difficult, and having it to hand is the difference between a price in two hours and a week of back and forth.
- A rough weightOr a count of pallets, drums, bins or bundles. An estimate is fine — the weighbridge decides the real figure.
- PhotographsOne or two of each pile. The fastest route to an accurate price, and it costs you nothing.
- Site access detailsHow a vehicle gets in, whether it can turn, and whether there is a forklift or a loading bay.
- Photo ID and proof of addressLegally required before we can buy. Have it ready for the day rather than the driver waiting.
- Bank detailsIn the name of the person or company selling. We cannot pay a third-party account.
- Anything unusual, declaredSealed vessels, plant holding oil, batteries, or anything that once held chemicals.
The vehicle
Why we ask so much about access
It decides what we send. A two-tonne load down a narrow lane is a different job from twenty tonnes off a loading bay, and getting it wrong wastes a day for both of us.
Hiab
Crane-equipped flatbed for heavy or awkward items that cannot be lifted by hand or forklift. Needs room to extend outriggers.
Skip and container
Dropped on site and collected when full. Best where scrap accumulates over weeks rather than arriving at once.
Roll-on-roll-off
Large volumes of light material. Needs level hardstanding and considerable space to load.
Van and small tipper
Restricted access, low bridges, residential streets and city centre sites where an artic simply cannot go.
Identity checks
Why we ask who you are
The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 requires every dealer to verify the identity of every seller and keep the record for inspection. It is not optional, and a buyer who skips it is one you should not be selling to.
Common questions about collection
How quickly can you collect?
Inside the M25, usually next working day. Elsewhere it depends on when a planned round next passes you, which is typically one to three working days. Urgent jobs are easier to arrange by phone than by form.
Do I have to be on site?
Somebody does, to confirm what is being taken and to complete the identity check. If that is impractical, call us before booking and we will work out an arrangement that still satisfies our legal obligations.
Can I watch my load being weighed and graded?
Yes, and you are welcome to. Gross and tare are taken on a calibrated bridge and the ticket is printed before sorting begins. If you cannot attend, we can share the camera feed instead.
What if the load is bigger than I estimated?
Tell the driver. If it will not fit we will arrange a second visit rather than part-loading and leaving you with an awkward remainder. Estimates being wrong is normal; it only becomes a problem when nobody mentions it.
When exactly does the money arrive?
Payment leaves us by BACS on the working day your load is weighed and graded. Depending on your bank it usually lands the same day or the next morning.
Ready when you are
Send a photo. Get a price.
Message a picture of the pile with a rough weight and a postcode, and we will quote against this week's board — no site visit needed to get started.
