Indicative only. Your firm price is fixed at the weighbridge after grading, with any deduction for attachments, moisture or non-metallics itemised on the ticket.
Payment is by BACS to a named account. We cannot pay cash — the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 prohibits it.
Pricing
What actually decides your number
Sellers often assume the price is a mark-up decision made in an office. Most of it is set before anyone looks at your load.
The exchange
The London Metal Exchange sets the underlying figure for copper, aluminium, lead, zinc and nickel. It moves daily, which is why a quote on Monday says nothing about Thursday.
Grade
How much work a refiner has to do before your metal is usable. Cleaner material needs less processing and earns more. This is the part you control.
Yield
How much saleable metal is genuinely in the load once moisture, attachments and contamination come off. We itemise every deduction rather than folding them into a lower rate.
Logistics
Distance, site access, and how full the vehicle travels back. Because the fleet is our own, this is one of the few places we have real room to move.
Consistency
Regular arisings of a known grade can be committed to a mill in advance, and are worth more to us than an unpredictable one-off. If you produce scrap steadily, say so.
Payment
How and when you get paid
- BACS, same working dayPayment leaves us the day your load is weighed and graded, to an account in the verified seller's name.
- No cash, everThe Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 prohibits cash payment for scrap in England and Wales. Anyone offering it is trading illegally.
- Itemised ticketGross, tare, net and every deduction listed line by line, printed before sorting begins.
- Self-billing invoiceRaised by us so you do not have to invoice, with a waste transfer note issued alongside it.

Photographs beat descriptions
Two piles described identically can grade very differently. A couple of photographs with your booking gets you far closer to the figure you will actually be paid.
Common questions about prices
Why will you not give me a firm price over the phone?
Because we have not seen the load. Coatings, attachments, moisture and alloy all change the grade, and none of them come across in a verbal description. We would rather quote a range honestly and confirm it on the weighbridge than name a figure and revise it down when the lorry arrives.
How often do the prices on this page change?
The board is reviewed weekly, but the underlying LME contracts move every day. Treat anything published here as a guide to relative values between grades rather than a fixed offer.
What is a deduction, and can I challenge one?
A deduction is weight in your load that is not saleable metal: water, concrete, steel fixings on aluminium, plastic on cable. Each one is itemised on your ticket rather than absorbed into a lower rate.
Yes, you can challenge one, and you should raise it before the material is processed. Once a load has been sheared, baled or melted it cannot be re-examined.
Do you pay more for larger loads?
Generally yes, because the collection cost per tonne falls and a full vehicle is more efficient for us. Regular, predictable volumes are worth more again, since we can commit them to a mill ahead of time.
Is your weighbridge independently checked?
Yes. It is calibrated and maintained in line with weights and measures requirements, and the calibration certificate is available on request. Ask for it — a buyer who hesitates is telling you something.
